Mark Salusbury
Wood Artist
Using primarily figured Canadian hardwoods such as fiddleback and quilted maple, spalted maple, box elder, cherry and walnut, Mark creates strikingly distinctive gift and presentation pieces which won international public and critical acclaim. His work is sold through selected Canadian galleries. He also enjoys commissions to create pieces for discerning private and corporate clients. Basing his work on classic forms and traditional techniques, Mark brings to each piece a sensitivity to the wood, and to form, proportion and detail, resulting in his unique recognizable style. Using skills in woodturning, carving and joinery, he imparts dynamic energy and grace into his work, elements of which are drawn from human and other natural forms. His work is distinguished by its bold appearance, attention to detail, excellent finish and timeless design. Sensitive to forestry, environment and human concerns, Mark uses only responsibly harvested sustainable woods and ‘baby safe’ finishes.
