SHAWN JACKSON
Shawn’s paintings evoke the feelings of the West Coast, its shores and islands, ponds and lakes. She makes frequent trips to the Gulf Islands as well as other destinations of inspiration, including the Canadian Rockies and the Okanagan, always in search of material for her paintings. Her work is known for its impressionistic sweeping brushwork, atmospheric colour perspective and strong use of light and shade. “My focus is on finding and enhancing the patterns of communication: Why is the subject or the space reaching out to me? What is this connection to the paint and the brush? How do I transfer these findings so that I may touch the viewer? And, finally, when have I said enough?”
Shawn Jackson is the second of five artistic children, all encouraged by their father, a landscape painter, and mother, a photographer/artist, to take up the challenge of painting at an early age. Born in Victoria, British Columbia in 1952, Shawn studied Fine Arts at Douglas College in Surrey, B.C. and participated in seminars and workshops with the Federation of Canadian Artists in Vancouver, B.C. She has been an associate member of the FCA since 1993.
Shawn’s paintings have become part of many private and corporate collections including Cominco Ltd. and Fletcher Challenge Canada Ltd. She is represented by a number of galleries in British Columbia and Alberta.
